Leading the Way

THE CHALLENGE

The RTP Campus of Wake Technical Community College (Wake Tech) is located on NC Highway 54 near I-540 in Morrisville, NC. Its next-generation learning environment is dedicated to the needs of individuals and corporations in Western Wake County and Research Triangle Park. The first building officially opened in August 2018, with plans for the 94-acre site to include up to 9 instructional buildings. CMS Controls was tasked with supporting WTCC in construction of its second building on this new campus. Building 2 needed to be integrated into the existing central plant on the RTP campus for Wake Tech. Along with a controls system that would provide a complete control package for all systems associated, there needed to be specific code requirements for humidity, pressure, and temperature for the laboratory space.

THE SOLUTION

CMS Controls utilized a Distech Controls solution that included Web Based access into the campus’s existing controls front-end user interface. CMS was able to implement complex sequences to monitor and accurately control humidity, temperature and pressure as needed to meet both code and laboratory specifications. The installed systems meet the short term and long term goals of the community college’s facility team. The solution offers precise control while being able to tie into Wake Tech’s master supervisory system.

CMS Controls worked diligently to maintain the construction schedule set by Wake Tech’s Construction manager. All of the project specifications for technical conformance, safety and workmanship were easily met or exceeded as the third party commissioning agent verified. CMS provided all the necessary training, commissioning and engineering assistance needed to fully integrate this second building into the Wake Tech RTP campus ensuring that the facility team tasked with taking care of this building had an intuitive, fully-open building automation system for years to come.

CMS Controls provided Wake Tech Community College with an Open Solution for their facility which offers flexibility in so􀅌ware updates and services providers as well. With the second building successfully added to the RTP campus, CMS Controls is able to fully support the facility and staff with all of their control system needs as well as the ability to monitor with 24/7 support.
